Yehezkel Streichmann (1906-1993)

1906 - Born in Kovno, Lithuania.

1924 - Streichmann immigrates to Palestine where he studied at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem.

1927 - Studies architecture in Paris.

1928-31 The Academy of Art, in Florence, Italy.

1948 - One of the founding members of the avant-garde movement, New Horizons, not before founding "The Studio" (1945-48) in Tel Aviv, with the artist Avigdor Stematsky. Participates in the 1948 24th. Venice Biennale

1954 – The Venice Biennale

1955 - Taking part in the third Sao-Paulo Biennale.

1966 – The Venice Biennale

1969 - A mid-life retrospective exhibition of his work held at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

1981 Made an Honorary Citizen of Tel-Aviv

Streichmann was awarded the Dizengoff Prize in 1941, 1944, 1954, 1969; the Ramat-Gan Prize in 1956; the Moadon Milo Prize in 1968; the Sandberg Prize for Israeli Art, Israel Museum, Jerusalem in 1974; the Histadrut Prize in 1986;

1990 – Awarded the honorary "Israel Prize for Visual Arts", handed traditionally by the prime-minister.

1992 - Appointed the Honorary President of the  Association of Artists and Sculptors.

1993 – Dies in Tel Aviv.

Piano is a beautiful intimate and colorful image. The abstract nature of the work shows Streichmann's withdraw from painting from reality, however he had still the tendency to describe intimate and proximate subjects.
